Roque Nublo

Roque Nublo is one of the most important land marks and places of the Canary archipelago. The Roque Nublo Natural Monument and its surroundings make up the Nublo Rural Park, declared a Protected Natural Area in 1987.

The shortest and most popular trail starts from the car park ‘Degollada de la Goleta’, in the municipality of Tejada. From here, you will begin a slight ascent along a majestic mountain trail that will take you to this magnificent volcanic rock that is, after Pico de las Nieves, the second highest peak on the island, about 1,813 meters above sea level.

This trail is of medium-low difficulty, with a distance of about 1.5 kilometers that you can do in about 30 minutes.

From Roque Nublo you can enjoy incredible views surrounded by nature. On a clear day you will also be able to see the peak Teide, the land mark of the neighbouring island Teneriffa and highest mountain of Spain. To complete the day, we recommend a visit to the charming mountain village of Tejeda.

Azuaje Ravine

Another hiking trail on Gran Canaria that you can not miss is the Barranco de Azuaje.

This is a very simple trail suitable for the whole family and a great opportunity to hike through the Azuaje Nature Reserve, located in the Rural Park of Doramas. You will be impressed by the beauty of this natural environment!

This trail is located in the municipalities of Moya-Firgas, in the central-northern part of the island of Gran Canaria.

On this hiking trail you will be able to see one of the most mysterious corners of Gran Canaria, the famous abandoned spa of Azuaje which is by now completely dominated by nature. If you pay attention, you can hear the relaxing sound of small water streams running through the environment.

There is an easily accessible picnic area where you can stop to rest and regain your energy, especially if you hike with children. In addition, the entire trail is signposted so you won’t get lost along the way.

The trail is of medium difficulty and about 8 kilometers that will take about 4 or 5 hours.

The Barranco de Azuaje has a great variety and an impressive natural richness, it can’t be missing on your list of hiking trails on Gran Canaria!

Ravine of the Kestrels

Another popular hiking trail on Gran Canaria is the Barranco de los Cernícalos. Between October and April, this trail is known for having streams and pools of fresh water springing from the highest areas of the island.

The trail of the Barranco de los Cernícalos isn’t very difficulty so it is an excellent excursion to do with children enjoying the incredible views along its way.

This trail is located in the Special Nature Reserve of Los Marteles (Valsequillo) and within the Protected Landscape of Lomo Magullo (Telde).

Walking through the Barranco de los Cernícalos you will have the opportunity to see one of the largest Canary willow forests in the whole archipelago.

As we mentioned, this is a simple trail as most of the way is flat. The trail is 4 kilometers long and can be covered in about 2 or 3 hours.

Los Tilos de Moya

On this trail, located in the municipality of Moya, you can enjoy the laurel forest, a type of prehistoric plant that is preserved on the Canary Islands thanks to the climatic conditions that favour its growth.

Once again, this is one of the perfect hiking trails on Gran Canaria for the whole family as it is not too difficult.

During its route you can enjoy beautiful landscapes, full of natural wealth with forests and a great variety of flora and fauna that will let your jaw drop.

The trail of Los Tilos de Moya is a circular route of 1.8 kilometers that you will be able to complete in about 30 minutes. You will love it!
