The key to skydiving: safety.

Skydiving is a controlled risk activity. As we all know, it is an extreme sport that consists of jumping from an aircraft at a certain height, accompanied by a parachute that has to be opened to slow the fall and to be able to land gently.

With the steering lines we can manage the direction and speed of the parachute flight so that we are in control of the parchute descent at all times. In order to practice skydiving safely, it is important to take into account certain safety measures and conditions:

  • The weather conditions must be favorable. Bear in mind that it is a sport that depends on the weather conditions, if the weather is not suitable, it is possible that the jump may have to be postponed to another date.
  • Make sure you don’t have any health conditions that would contraindicate skydiving. Some health issues can increase the chances of an accident or injury or there is a risk that the condition deteriorates. Therfore it is essential that you advise of your health condition when booking your skydive so that the skydive professionals can check if you are fit for the activity.
  • Instructors do a thorough check of all material and equipment before the jump. In addition, all skydiving equipment include a second parachute as a reserve that can be used in the event that the main parachute does not open normally. In addition to the extra parachute, the equipment also has an automatic opening system so that if the instructor does not activate the opening of the parachute, the automatic opening system will activate the opening of the reserve parachute.
  • You may not skydive under the influence of alcohol or any other substance. Moreover, their harmful effects may be increased due to the altitude.
  • It is important to follow the instructions of the instructor at all times, as he/she will be the experienced person who will act as a guide for the activity.

How to learn and practice skydiving

Regarding the training of solo skydiving, the main thing is to confirm that you don’t suffer from any health issues that would contraindicate the activity, and that the person who wants to start skydiving alone is not younger than 16 years old.

The AFF (Accelerated Freefall) course is a popular method of instruction to learn the basic skills of skydiving in a fast, safe and effective way. It is the most popular learning programme in Spain and the rest of the world.

The training begins with ground training and theory lessons about everything related to free falling and parachute flying, covering things like manipulating the relative wind to be able to achieve a stable free fall, safety measures and emergency procedures, parachute landing patterns, how meteorology affects skydiving and much more…

The practice part of the AFF course allows the student a personalised teaching during the freefall. The first jumps are accompanied by two instructors who hold both your body and the harness of the equipment so that you maintain a stable position. After completing several levels in which you need to perform certain skills to progress and making a certain amount of solo jumps under supervision you complete your course with a theory and practical exam, After you obtain your licence and as your training progresses you aquire more and more skills allowing you to learn different disciplines and even participate in championships.
