Tips about what to wear on your skydive

The big day is approaching and nerves start to appear. In the case of an extreme sport such as skydiving, it is normal that you want to have everything under control. One of the most common questions that our tandem guests usually ask, is what clothes to wear on their skydive.

Of course the most important thing is your safety and comfort. Choosing the clothes that you will wear for your first jump will help you enjoy this incredible experience even more. We will take care of and provide you with all the special jumping equipment that you need. The only thing you should worry about is following some easy tips.

So without further delay, let’s get started!

1. Bring comfortable shoes

Comfortable shoes? To jump out of a plane?

Yes! To live this experience in the best possible way, we advise you to bring comfortable closed shoes. What’s more, the sneakers or running shoes that you use to walk the dog or to go to the gym will be the ideal choice. Footwear is important during all parts of the activity. They will give you more comfort when you are on the plane, when you are flying and later during landing. If you think that you are going to worry about your shoes throughout the entire experience, then you better bring not those ones. When you jump, you will be falling at a speed of 200km/h and if you come in flip flops or shoes that can not be tightened, they will fly away!

2. How’s the weather?

Another tip on what clothes to wear on your skydive is that you should keep the weather in mind. Is it winter? Summer? Is it hot, cold? Depending on the temperature it is advisable to use an outfit accordingly. What if it rains? What clothes should I bring then? Don’t worry about the rain. We won’t do the jump when the weather conditions are not suitable for it. In winter, or when the temperatures are colder, we recommend that you bring a fleece, a long-sleeved shirt, and long pants

Now, what happens if it’s hot? In that case, it’s good to know that the temperature decreases about 7º C for every 1000 meters of altitude. For this reason, you should consider wearing a little warmer clothing, just in case. You can still bring short sleeves and shorts, but nonetheless we recommend that you keep the high altitude in mind. It is very likely that once you are in the air, the adrenaline itself will make you forget what the weather is like or what time it is for that matter. But just in case, it is advisable to prepare properly.

3. Do not wear anything loose or hanging

Any item you carry that is not properly secured runs the risk of hurting you and the instructor once you are flying. In the best case scenario it will be very annoying. This includes any buckles, necklaces, or earrings that are loose. At our facilities we provide you with a place where you can store your belongings so you don’t have to worry about them during your jumping experience.

When thinking about suitable clothes to wear for your parachute adventure, think about what clothes fit you like a glove, and what shirts you can tuck under your pants. If your clothes are not tight to your body, the wind can raise them and be uncomfortable during free fall.

4. Clothes that give you freedom of movement

In the previous point we explained not to wear too baggy/loose outfits so they don’t flap around in the wind making you feel uncomfortable.

Sportswear is usually the most comfortable and, since it does not impair movement, it is the most appropriate. You want to be able to move freely and not feel restricted in any way to get the most out of your experience.

5. Gloves

Despite the good weather that Gran Canaria usually has all year round, in winter at the height of free fall it can be a bit cold so it is a good idea to bring a pair of gloves, just in case.

6. Can I wear contact lenses or glasses?

It’s understandable that when choosing suitable clothes to wear on your skydive, you might have doubts about what will happen if you bring your glasses or contact lenses. After all, you don’t want to miss the breathtaking views of one of the most beautiful islands in the Atlantic.

Rest assured, it’s no problem at all. Contact lenses are usually more comfortable than glasses but if you prefer to wear glasses you just have to discuss it with one of our instructors so they can tell you what to do in that case. The most important thing is your safety and comfort!

7.  Tie up your hair

Can you imagine jumping out of the plane and not being able to see anything because you have all your hair in your face? If it is already annoying to wear your hair down on a windy day, imagine when you are plummeting in free fall.

Therefore, if you have long hair, it is best to tie it in a ponytail or braid that will keep it in place throughout the activity.
